Daily Beat Presents: An Interview with MAKJ

Last Friday night, I was fortunate enough to catch Mackenzie Johnson, a.k.a. MAKJ, at his debut performance in Philadelphia at Soundgarden Hall. For those of you who don't know, MAKJ has been steadily and quickly making his journey up the ladder of fame and respect in the electronic world. In just a few short months he has put out releases on Ultra Records, Diffused, Juicy Music, and Hysteria, with new tracks set to be released through Doorn Records and Revealed Recordings. To top this all off, he was recently selected to perform the main stage at the first installment of TomorrowWorld. During our sit-down, we discussed his rise to budding superstardom, his take on the electronic music world today, and his thoughts about what the future holds for him.

Bonus: Read about our review of the evening HERE.

RELEASE: Official Tomorrowland 2013 Aftermovie

So today marks the release of the much awaited Tomorrowland 2013 Aftermovie. This is always an aftermovie that attracts millions upon millions of viewers bringing to them a slither of what actually happens at Tomorrowland. Myself, and fellow Daily Beat team member Finn Lurcott, were lucky enough to attend for a second year running this summer. Words fail to describe this place for the magic that it holds. The amount of energy and love that you receive just walking through the festival is in itself jaw-dropping. The aftermovie for the past few years has received absolutely massive view counts. The purpose of the aftermovie is not just for those who attended to relive those magical moments one last time, but it is also designed to attract next years crowd. This can only be seen as a successful way to attract a crowd as both ticket sales for the previous two years have run out in close to 10 minutes!

DJ Snake Update - "Turn Down For What" / "Slow Down" [FREE DOWNLOAD]

DJ Snake’s had quite an eventful week. It started with the announcement of his signing to EDM booking powerhouse AM Only and subsequent US tour. Next came “Slow Down” with collaborators Yellow Claw and Spanker, a genre-bending composition that is part bubbly twerk theme with some b-boy flavor (that cowbell though...) and part lurching moombahton procession. This song is sure to pop up throughout sets of the Mad Decent roster (and probably Diplo’s Instagram) in the very near future. Check out "Slow Down" featured below in the preview for DJ Snake's upcoming appearance at TomorrowWorld 2013, and download it for free on Mad Decent's Soundcloud.
