I knew that I was facing some kind of a musical mastermind when I first witnessed Claptone perform last year. In between a slew of shows at Verboten and across the globe, the golden-beaked maestro headlined Mysteryland, alongside stints at Tomorrowland, Melt! Festival, HARD Day of the Dead, and Creamfields Brasil. Something about his brand of souldful, melodic house sweeps you up underneath his wing, where you're soon locked into a crisp and airy dreamstate. It's no wonder his remix of Gregory Porter's "Liquid Spirit" rose to Number 1 on the Beatport Top 100 after its release last summer. Add on his acclaimed BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix and his favored "Clapcast" podcasts, and it's a wonder how the anonymous avian has been able to remain faceless after four years of consistently provoking music.
Last October, the beatmaker continued to thrill listeners with the release of his debut album, Charmer. Topping off at thirteen tracks, each one could stand out on its own as a single, featuring collaborations with indie favorites Peter, Bjorn and John and Clap Your Hands Say Yeah.
