Todd Terje - "Spiral"/"Q"

November 29, 2013 -

Ian Miller

Todd Terje just dropped his Spiral 12" on his own Olsen Records earlier today.  The musician from Olso, famous for his seminal Inspector Norse (still honestly one of my favorite songs), is said to release his debut album in early spring 2014.  To hold us over until then, he delivers Spiral and Q.  Spiral's steel drums and funk synths fit well with the progressive disco sound pioneered in recent years by Terje, while Q makes use funk synths that grow from hollow to full, not to mention that sultry cowbell sound we all love.  While both tracks are over 10 minutes long, they manage to keep your attention (Q especially) and might lend themselves to a more genre-inclusive trance set.
