So I'm walking to class one gloomy morning, and in my half-awake stupor I bump into a lady who couldn't have been more than 5 feet tall and caused her to drop all of the books she was carrying. As I frantically tried to help her pick her books up, I looked up and realized that I had just bumped into Patrice Rushen, the Director of the Popular Music Program here at USC. In 1982 she released a Grammy-nominated single that created one of Will Smith's most popular songs.
