Today we are witness to the explosion of the entertainment industry. During festival season, hundreds of thousands of avid fans travel around the world to see their favorite acts perform in incredible locations. Celebrities are expanding their repertoire to please their fans in all ways possible, and up-and-coming entertainers are learning the tricks of all the trades that they can manage, allowing for a pretty sweet combination of all the things we love in the industry. Allow me to introduce one of these multi-taskers: Kristin Rose.
No stranger to the public eye, Kristin can be seen as what we would call a renaissance woman, a specialist in many things entertainment. Whether it is tearing up Lit Ultrabar during her monthly DJ residency alongside her producer trio Terzetto, answering 4am call times for her New York modeling gigs, or traveling around the country to film her roles in television and advertisement, it is safe to say that she is hungry for the grind, eager for the success that follows. I was able to sit down with Kristin for a little bit, and we chatted about the life and how she manages to pull it all off:
Ronin: So, being involved in both the film industry and the music/DJ game, which would you say you enjoy more and why?
Kristin Rose: When I first stepped on stage as a young girl I fell in love and knew that I was meant to pursue an acting career. DJing came later in life. The minute that I saw the crowd react to my music and felt their energy it became addicting! Performing is my passion, so whether it’s acting on TV or DJing in a club, I’m comfortable. I'm an entertainer at heart, so I say all the time that I literally have the two best jobs in the world. I’m lucky that I love two things so much and that they go hand in hand. The acting world is extremely supportive of my music career and the music world loves seeing me on TV!
R: Definitely cool that you have fans that enjoy the success across the genres! So what’s coming up for you?
KR: Well, I’m super excited to announce that I’ll be featured in multiple episodes of the ABC TV show “What Would You Do?”! It was definitely awesome working with a major broadcasting company, and it definitely opened my eyes to a lot of prevalent issues in the States at the moment. As far as music, I’ve been collaboratingwith super talented producers and we’ll be releasing our tracks in 2014! There’s also some pending dates at new locations that I’ll be announcing in the near future! I’ve had a really wonderful year in both acting and music and I’m looking forward to an even better 2014.
R: Sounds like you've got a lot on your plate! Do you see one aspect/career path overtaking the other?
KR: Sometimes one field is busier than the other, and right when I think it might overtake it I’ll get a huge booking from the field that’s been slow. When someone is working in such a competitive field and towards such big dreams there will be slow moments, your job is to stay focused and continue working through it. I’m a firm believer in persistence and commitment.
R: Yeah it seems that both careers that you have chosen are known to be hectic as hell, both with travel and obscurity in the hours. How do you cope?
KR: My friends and family ask me the same question all the time! I’m naturally more of a night owl so DJing well into the AM isn’t too difficult for me. The time differences between DJing and acting are what are tough! For instance, I could be Djing until 4am and have a shoot the next morning with a call time of 6am. I’ve honestly lost count of all the times I’ve gone 24hrs without any sleep. But as crazy as it is, I love them both so much that I’m never miserable about it. That’s the beauty of doing what you love, I guess. Even when you’re insanely busy, running on no sleep, you’re still so happy. My life is crazy, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. To cope, I try to live as healthy a life as possible. Eating healthy, drinking lots of water, working out and catching up on sleep whenever I possibly can.
R: What would you say has been your most enjoyable gig as an actress?
KR: Being on the road and shooting for the ABC TV show “What Would You Do?” I traveled with the show for two weeks this past summer and we shot along Route 66. We went from Missouri to Oklahoma and finished in Texas. It was the first time I got a taste of being on the road while doing what you love. It was an incredible experience that I’m still so thankful for. My gypsy soul is complete when I get to travel!
R: I'll say! So when you have a free minute, what do you do to unwind/take a break from acting/DJing?
KR: Working out helps me unwind so I take dance classes whenever I get the chance to. Shopping will ALWAYS do the trick too!
So there you have it, guys and gals! Living proof that if you have the drive, you can pull off a lot more than you probably expected. Miss Rose has most assuredly demonstrated that although life might get crazy and sometimes downright mind-boggling when you're following your passions and dreams, if you keep your nose to the grindstone, anything is possible. Keep on keepin' on! Until next Sunday, everyone!
