Zedd recently released his newest track with the Paramore's lead-singer Hayley Williams, somewhat of a surprise collaboration. I have to say that from a critical perspective I was pretty disappointed with the result, of course it will gain success due to the catchy hook and feel good drop, and with that being said if this were to come on in a club i'm sure I wouldn't drop all i'm doing and sit down just because I think of it to be an average track.
Nevertheless, there are so many people talking about the stagnant position of dance music and people not being creative enough or pushing the envelope, and this could be used as an example, as it sounds like a normal pop track that would obviously make the charts, rather than a unique and creative song that turns heads.
But at the end of the day, with the integration of dance music into pop culture it will be inevitable that once in a while a perfectly respectable, if not admirable DJ will collaborate with a pop star to make a chart hit. And there is nothing wrong with that. We all know Zedd to be an admirable producer who has created some amazing songs in the past and will continue to do so.
