New Zealand’s Lorde (Ella Yelich-O'Connor) seems poised to become the Queen of Pop. She has won over critics, fans, billboard charts, and the admiration and respect of fellow artists, all by the age of 16.
Lorde combines expertly layered vocals on top of unique, yet familiar electronic beats that create a sound of future-pop that is quite alluring. She has stated that her influences include Fleetwood Mac, SBTRKT, Etta James, Burial, James Blake and The Weeknd, which compound beautifully to create the alternative electro-pop sound that she is now associated with. Producer and songwriter Joel Little is responsible for a lot of her sound, and was her main collaborator on her most recent project, The Love Club EP.
For anyone in the Tri-state area, The Bowery Presents brings Lorde to Webster Hall on Monday, September 30, 2013 at 8pm. The show is sold out, however, tickets are available on StubHub. Anyone that was at her show in New York City in August knows that this is not a performance to be missed.
With Lorde's highly anticipated 10-track debut album, "Pure Heroine" coming the same day as her performance at Webster Hall, we should be in for a treat. The new album includes the billboard banger “Royals”, as well as 9 other charismatic tracks that display her witty, yet sarcastic lyrics, and potent songwriting abilities. For your enjoyment, we've included the streaming album below. We hope to see you at Webster Hall on Monday.
