Event Review: LIZ, DJ Hoodboi, Trippy Turtle @ COMPLEX

Glendale. A smallish city in Los Angeles not quite as famous for live music as Hollywood or Pomona. I don't think I'd ever been to a concert as close to where I go to school in my life. Enter Mad Decent and the Sea Turtle Conservancy.

In a coincident effort to raise funds for the Sea Turtle Conservancy and help fund Trippy Turtle's first album (coming in February 2014), Mad Decent announced a small show one day in advance, and I could already tell that it was going to be incredible.

The lineup for the show was pretty stacked - Lil Texas b2b CZ, a surprise guest, LIZ, Trippy Turtle and DJ Hoodboi to close out the night. The show took place at Complex, a place that seemed like a hole in the wall until I entered, and upon doing so I saw the small stage setup with a Funktion One sound system, and was more ready than ever for the Jersey Club beats that were soon to pound the space.

Event Preview: Trippy Turtle x Djemba Djemba x LIZ @ Complex LA

Yes, you read that correctly. The Father of FoFoFadi, Trippy Turtle, announced a show in conjunction with Mad Decent and The Sea Turtle Conservancy in Los Angeles, CA. This would be the Turtle's first show on the West Coast, and with his identity still a mystery (though we know it's not Cashmere Cat now), we might just be able to find out who he is! The jersey club scene has been popping off this year with guys such as Trippy Turtle, Djemba Djemba, Brenmar and the elusive DJ Yolo Bear at its helm.

Tomorrow's lineup includes the aforementioned Trippy Turtle, as well as Djemba Djemba and LIZ. The show is at Complex , 806 E Colorado St from 10p-2am.

We can't wait for Trippy Turtle to bring Jersey to L.A. Are you going to be there?

Dillon Francis - Without You (Remixes)

Traditionally known for his wild antics on social media and even craziers songs, one of our favorites Dillon Francis kept us guessing with his latest release "Without You", a collaboration with Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs that showed the more heartfelt side of the Los Angeles based producer. Yesterday, Mad Decent released a remix EP for the very same single showing that there are always more than one way to drop a beat.

Artist Spotlight - Mr. Carmack

When not working as a chef, Honolulu's Aaron Carmack makes beats -- dope beats to be precise.  Aaron, who goes by the moniker Mr. Carmack, has been taking the instrumental hip-hop world by storm for the past year and a half or so, and doesn't show signs of stopping.  With appearances on Los Angeles-based record labels Soulection and Team Supreme, and even an official release on Mad Decent, it's clear that Carmack's fusion of hip-hop, trap, chillout, and world music is catching on.  A must listen for anyone interested in staying ahead of the hip-hop curve (especially if you write rhymes of your own!).
