Chicago rapper Mick Jenkins recently released a track entitled "Rain," produced by Montreal's own Kaytranada (so hot right now). Hip-hop fans are very fortunate for this new collaboration; Jenkins continues to impress with his lyrical prowess and effortless ability to switch up the flow mid-verse, and Kaytranada seems to improve with every new beat he releases. I am very excited for future collaborations between these two, as well any upcoming individual work.
The beat itself is fairly stripped down and is defined by the 1973 sample of "I Can't Stand the Rain" from Ann Peebles. Jenkins maintains an interesting theme about the state of Chicago and effectively relates the sample to his lyrical content.
You can purchase Jenkins' most recent project on iTunes, "The Water[s]," here.
Kaytranada's upcoming EP entitled "So Bad" (XL Recordings) has yet to be released.
