And you still think that deep house isn’t the future… For Mary J. Blige, it’s not about innovation. She’s already solidified herself as having one of the greatest voices in the past 25 years. For her, it’s about pulling off something new, while still fitting her silky smooth voice with a thriving sub-genre that maintains a traditional sound of what was common in her prime. Disclosure even dropped it down to 110 BPM, how nice!

For Sam Smith, it’s about reinforcing his brand as being a prominent figure of the sub-genre that’s predicted by many to be the future of EDM. The Ellie Goulding of deep house?

For the fans, this could potentially be a great era for those fans of 90s pop and R&B. A piece of advice for you divas of old: Want to make a comeback? Find a deep house producer, and get to work! I’m talking to you Mariah Carey (I know you just put out a record, but c’mon!). Seriously though, this could be the best career move you’ve made in 15 years. Hook up the producer, quit smoking, and you’re golden!

MJB’s new album will drop in November, with the boys from Disclosure said to be heavily involved. Check out the first taste from the new album.
