Pittsburgh rapper Mac Miller dropped his newest mixtape, Faces, as a Mother’s Day special (here you go, Mom!), Sunday, May 11th. The 24-track project was launched through Mac Miller’s new website, oldjewish.com, and contains features from the likes of Rick Ross, Ab-Soul, Sir Michael Rocks, Schoolboy Q, Earl Sweatshirt, and more. You can download the mixtape for free on the website after you create a virtual sandwich by clicking and dragging breads, meats, condiments, etc. “Submit a sammich and get the mixtape,” as the website says, “No music on an empty stomach.”
Mac Miller also dropped multiple videos on his YouTube Channel, TreeJTV, to hype the release. In this particular video, he shouts out his mother, of course, the Diamond Supply Co. X Mac Miller “Old Jewish” Collection, and Rick Rubin, among others.
The mixtape takes another step away from the mainstream hip-hop blueprint as Mac delves deeper into his complicated thought process and self-proclaimed drug problem, adding as many introspective and self-deprecating lines as possible. Artistic progression is what comes to mind after listening to this far-from-brief mixtape. Mac proclaims, “I did it without a Drake feature.” He’s definitely not lying.
