Last weekend Daily Beat headed to the El Rey Theater in Los Angeles to catch Giraffage as he performed a headlining slot for his No Reason Tour. We were lucky enough to catch his performance back when he was throwing down sets at the acclaimed Low End Theory weekly. It's been awesome seeing him come up to this point. On top of the amazing work he’s been putting in the past few years, he recently got picked up by A-Trak’s notorious Fool’s Gold label for his latest No Reason EP release. On top of a performance at Day of the Dead and future bookings for CRSSD Fest and Mad Decent Boat Party, it is clear that there’s something special going on here.
Giraffage began his set with the track Close 2 Me, one of his more popular works that dropped a few years ago. Last time we hit the El Rey we were teased with the dirty sounds of gLAdiator and Keys N Krates, so this type of music was definitely a refresher. The rest of his set continued with this vibe of smooth chilling beats grazing chops and samples that has defined Giraffage as a producer. Everyone was here because they appreciate this deeper style of electronic music and from the look of the crowd his performance resonated perfectly with the room; so much that at some point a bouquet of flowers was brought up from the crowd.
His smooth chords and futuristic rhythms aligned with the lighting and visuals to create a vivid atmosphere. Although his set began with a chill vibe, it slowly crept into a trappy territory as he worked the crowd up. His humble stage presence and intriguing beats made it clear as to why the LA crowd welcomed this San Francisco native with open arms. It was a great night for Giraffage to showcase his new live show and an excellent way to end of his successful tour.
