Event Review: R3hab @ Spades Nightclub Minneapols

November 6, 2014 -

The night started early in Minneapolis on this Halloween eve, everyone ready to see what the hype was about and the Spades Nightclub staff was ready to deliver.  It's on a rare occasion that Minneapolis brings such a big artist into town, not only because we're about a year behind in electronic music but also because there really aren't any promoters capable of bringing in acts of this magnitude.  Then there is Ge Najm and his stealer staff at Spades Nightclub who are here to put all of those theories to shame, bringing in the number 23 DJ in the game (according to DJmag) none other than the fabulous DJ R3hab!

R3hab

The amazing thing about Spades is that it provides you an experience like no other with one key factor, intimacy.  There are not many clubs that you can go to that you can nearly touch the DJ but Spades offers you that and so much more.  When you walk in you are greeted by the kindest security, which they like to call "hosts" as well as a bar staff that actually cares about your business and offers drinks that don't cost you your whole paycheck.  It's rare to walk into a nightclub and be greeted by all smiles and so much energy that it is actually contagious but they do it and do it well.

R3hab

Doors opened at nine which put R3hab on at midnight, so the opener better be good and have a very diverse set of music to keep everyone energized yet anticipating the main act.  GrayJ is Spades resident DJ and when I say he's good, I mean he's really good.  Every time he plays he brings a new vibe to the club that keeps you moving but lets you store up much excitement for the main act.  He consistently impresses with an eclectic set of music, some old, some new, but always the perfect thing you need to get ready for the night.

Midnight hits and everyone is ready, by everyone I mean the 300 people who were lucky enough to make it into the club, I did emphasize on how intimate it was right? The next thing you know the club is ALIVE and partying harder than I have seen a crowd party in Minneapolis in a while.  Lets put it this way, when you walk into Spades, its like walking into any high-end club in Vegas or NYC just on a smaller scale.  That does not mean that they cut any corners due to size because the lighting system in there is spectacular and the sound is unreal!  I can see why these big name acts don't hesitate playing there because it is next level.

R3hab

R3hab's set is everything I had expected it to be, he brought home some old bangers that I hadn't heard in years as well as dropping all of his new music including his new mega hit "Burnin'" that he just released with Calvin Harris.  From remixes to originals R3hab's 2 hour set brought us something that will take a long time to forget.  Let us not leave out the what seemed like pounds of confetti, endless CO2 cannons and light graphics for days, this was seriously a production that I am glad I didn't miss.  Oh and he finished his set with a trap banger, and we all know (or should know) my massive obsession with trap music.

All in all this night proved that Minneapolis, more specifically Spades Nightclub and Ge Najm are a force to be reckoned with.  They bring in top artists, put on top-level productions all while remaining humble and welcoming to everyone in the electronic dance music community.  Would I suggest catching a show at Spades Nightclub in the near future? I would say you would be foolish if you didn't, for locals and visitors this place makes you feel at home while being in one of the coolest clubs I've been too in a long time. The night was like the perfect picture out of an EDM fairy tale, staring prince R3hab who might I add is one of the most down to earth humans I've met.  He stayed and took pictures with everyone, a smile never left his face.  He was so kind to all of the people who wanted to congratulate him on a totally stellar night even tho he had to catch a flight only a couple of hours later.  It's really cool to see that these mega stars are actually just normal human beings like the rest of us and work beyond hard for everything they have.

R3hab

My best of luck to R3hab as he continues to dominate in the EDM world, #23 and rising.  If he stays as awesome as he is this man could do some pretty amazing things.  Hats off to you sir and thank you for an amazing start to Halloween 2014!
