Event Review: Bixel Boys Empire EP Release Party @ Exchange LA (07.05)

Although I'm not the biggest fan of clubs, I must say that Inception Saturdays at Exchange LA is pretty great. They bring out local artists as well as more well known artists in the scene, and the vibes are very chill. We arrived to the club right on time to catch Hotel Garuda's set (in which only one half of the duo was spinning). The deep house funkiness was on point, and I must say that their mixing style was very smooth, and kept the beat flowing. After seeing the tracklist from their set on their Facebook uploaded this morning, I was very impressed by the remixes they put out. This young duo is going places, and I can't wait to see their progress into the world of deep house.

Next up was the LA-born duo Bixel Boys, who also played a nice deep house set. Although I was expecting more "big room underground" type tunes, I had no problem with more deep house. The venue started to use the full on light display once they began too, and it was amazing, of course. Insomniac always brings an unmatched level of production that I just never see at other events. For a nightclub, it felt like I was at a rave for a split second. I even noticed some people who were giving light shows in the audience, which is cool but still a little out of place for a club don't you think? Anyway, it was a good night of smooth music, cool people, and good vibes all around. I would definitely recommend watching Bixel Boys or Hotel Garuda if they're at an event near you.
