Electronic-Disco Fashion

Anyone who's in possession of Daft Punk’s new album Random Access Memories, or has played Robin Thicke and Pharrell’s “Blurred Lines” on repeat, knows that a “new” sound is making our ears do a little dance. I say “new,” only because the sound that’s taking up airtime isn’t really all that new, but rather a lot of really awesome old things mixed together. I’m talking about electro-funk and electronic disco, and it’s pretty damn good. As you know (or you
should, because us lovely writers at the Daily Beat have been telling you so), underground disco musician Moon Boots is playing with The Twelves in LA on Friday, and you’re going to need something killer to wear. Might I suggest channeling the artists behind the sounds of electro-funk?

To start, bright neon colors are a great way to channel 80’s boogie and old school hip-hop. Makeup is a great way to experiment with neon, particularly nail polish and lip colors. I would recommend orange lipstick specifically, as it’s flattering on every skin tone, and neon yellow polish with a matte finish. For a particularly wild look, paint one of your nails an opposing color, like a glittery purple.

For clothes, color is again your friend. I would recommend bright patterns, such as those worn by model Grace Bol below, or a vibrant suit for a menswear look, as seen on Esther Quek. Your look will definitely be reminiscent of Michael Jackson Speaking of menswear, legendary design house Yves Saint Laurent recently debuted their Spring/Summer Collection 2013, which features suits designed for Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo of Daft Punk. To emulate their style, look for sequined or beaded blazers with sharp lines, and wear them with a vibrant bra top to stave off the heat inside the club.

As always, fashion these days is about wearing things that are bold, comfortable, and unique, so when you check out Moon Boots this Friday, wear what speaks to you.
