This summer is an exciting one for the festival circuit, especially if you're into the deeper sounds of electronic music. Artists from all around the world are preparing an arsenal of new releases to bless your ears with, and today's musical selection comes to us from the UK. London duo Nick Harriman and Alfie Granger-Howell, also known as Dusky have become renowned for both the breadth and diversity of their production sound. As touring DJs, their non-stop global touring has included headlining tours in Australia, New Zealand, North America, UK and Europe over the past 12 months, including a packed out Miami WMC showcase and their all-night set at London's Laundry (which sold out nearly a month in advance).
Coming soon to their own label 17 Steps, Dusky's Ordinary World EP brings together four diverse tracks that showcase their widescreen approach to club sounds; again balancing moody tones with warmer shades. Drawing on Belgian techno and UK rave influences, the mutant 4 on the floor beat of Jilted is the first track to be revealed from the EP; premiered as a Special Delivery on Annie Mac's BBC Radio 1 show last Friday.
The boys have personally dedicated this one to the ravers, but it delivers on a much wider scale. Delving into the grimy, warehouse-ready side that feeds into so many of the duo's DJ sets, Jilted is a six minute surge of heavy kicks, hoovers, relentless bass stabs and burnt-out euphoria. Keep an eye out for more releases from their new EP, and as always, happy listening!
