Today, a couple big names in the music industry dropped something that doesn’t quite live up to their hype. DJ Snake, who you know from “Turn Down For What,” and DJ Mustard, who you know from "I Don't Fuck With You," have released a remix of ZHU’s Grammy-nominated track, “Faded.”
Faded is a terrific song, and artists like Odesza and Big Gigantic have already remixed it in fresh, interesting ways. Today’s release seems to take a song that has been celebrated as innovative, and take a step back by turning it into another generic club banger. DJ Mustard shamelessly recycles his bass line style in the verse underneath the original vocal, which then leads into a jarring and uninspiring drop. They even ripped a page out of Jack U’s playbook by blatantly mimicking their quirky snare sample in “Take U There.”
On DJ Snake’s Soundcloud they wrote, “one night in L.A we did this shit - thought we'd drop it." If they're gloating about its quick creation, it only serves to make everything feel all that more distasteful. Don’t take my word for it though; take a listen to the remix and the original below, then tell us if you agree or disagree.
