If you are not familiar with the Daruma gang, then it is about time you acquaint yourself. The trap-heavy collective first emerged less than a year ago with the drop of their first compilation in May 2015. Now eight months into the life of the label, we see the release of their fifth compilation, and the content is as fresh as ever.
Daruma’s SoundCloud description boasts a fifteen-artist roster, but all of their compilations have showcased a handful of producers that are Daruma neophytes. Some notable mentions of the latest raw recruits are lux.impala, Whispa, and Jia Lih. And though these guys are new to the Daruma brand, they’ve all been killing the game in their own right.
Daruma Vol. 005 is eighteen tracks of solid, trap-infused dopeness. Really, there isn’t a weak record amongst the bunch. But, to give you a nice cross-section of the release, we’ll give you our top five tracks from the compilation: Graves’s BMO vs. Football (what time is it?!), Jia Lih’s Sacred bringing the slow trap grooves, Enschway’s Papercut on the hybrid vibes, lux.impala’s MorningStar with those bright, future bass colors, and Luca Lush’s Boom to top off the selection.
