Baltimore's about to get a little bit louder. This weekend, Moonrise will take over Pimlico Race Course. Being a smaller-scale festival, the bass-heavy lineup is impressive, with the sounds of Dillon Francis, Zeds Dead, Die Antwoord and more. Moonrise is the mid-Atlantic's premier dance music festival, bringing in crowds from all corners of the east coast and beyond.
We curated a special selection of spotlight tracks by a few of our favorite artists, some established and some on the rise, on this year's lineup. A continuous playlist is at the end of this post for your listening pleasure.
1. AC Slater – "Everyday"
AC Slater is the definition of "energy," but when you're a DJ, producer, and Night Bass Records founder, you have no choice but to be. If there was ever an audio version of caffeine, "Everyday" is it: with the clash of clanging metal, the track tells you to Get up, bitch! until your feet are shuffling to the beat across the floor. Slater's debut EP, Take the Night, releases today on OWSLA. – Milli
2. Zeds Dead & LOUDPVCK - "Flies"
Zeds Dead possess the unmatched ability to seamlessly adapt to almost any genre. Their moody remix of Blue Foundation's "Eyes on Fire" helped to push them onto a largely dubstep landscape, but years later, they've successfully proven that dubstep isn't their only forte. It was a given that the duo would soon choose to collaborate with trap connoisseur, LOUDPVCK, for a multi-layered track. Zeds Dead's recognizably pounding bassline underlines LOUDPVCK's signature synth-laden higher pitches, filled in between the grimy crunches we've come to love from both artists. – Milli
3. Bassnectar - Dorfex Bos (2015 Version)
#FlashBackFriday According to an interview with Rolling Stone, Lorin describes this one as an ode to an old friend, Dorfex Bos, who was an "unbelievably gifted" producer stemming from the Bay Area. The original version off of his Diverse Systems of Throb album he describes as "whimsical childhood wonder and awe." – Ashlyn
4. Dr Fresch - Superfreak
It's so refreshing to see someone like Tony Fresch start to come up and make a name for himself in the music industry. He's gone from intern to writer to blogger to CEO and producer/DJ; there is clearly no slowing him down. This funky bass track combines different elements and sounds that he's shown us over the last couple of years and showcases his diversity when producing a house music track. -Ashlyn
5. I Can't Take It - Dillon Francis (Party Favor Remix)
"It was not a Deep House party, there was nothing deep about it." Truer words could not be spoken for this dub remix of an outstanding track off Dillon Francis' newest release, "This Mixtape is Fire." With a harder buildup and drop than the original, Party Favor has created an energetic anthem that's sure to be heard all weekend. It's hard to one up a Dillon Francis track, but "I Can't Take It" does just that. A proper combination of mainstream appeal and original sound makes this track a constant on my personal rotation. - William
6. Louis Futon - Oakland Tho (Ft. Vell & DJ Mustard)
Louis Futon has been gaining our attention more and more over the past few months and especially after working with Bassnectar on Into the Sun's recent track, Sideways. Teaming up with DJ Mustard and Vell on vocals, Louis Futon hits us with this wobble infused trap track perfect for your drive to the race track this weekend. - Ashlyn
