One of our favorite new hip-hop discoveries has been Maryland-based rapper Ayotemi. The lyricist has been diligently prepping for his new album, but he didn't want to leave us empty-handed until then. For his latest release, Ayotemi teams up with Bonsai Collective roster member Foolie $urfin for an uplifting trap tune called "New Jam."
While trap comes from Atlanta, the DMV resident gives his own take on the genre. He says, "The energy was inspired by artists like Baby Keem and the Migos but it carries the same high frequency that my other music carries. Any genre of music can be infused with righteousness."
Ayotemi is never one to stay quiet about his beliefs, always using his platform to uplift the community with motivating words and praise to a higher power. And he wants to continue to use his influence to set a good example for future generations.
This music is for the youth. Something to energize us and nutrify us at the same time. It bangs but it’s not poisonous for the spirit.
Ayotemi
While "New Jam" is pretty different from Ayotemi's usual sound, he hopes to bring all hip-hop heads together by expanding his range with this track. And the prolific and praised Foolie $urfin was the perfect producer for the job.
Foolie $urfin's powerful percussion and danceable melodies mixed with Ayotemi's soothing streams of consciousness and intentional bars is a match made in heaven.
