Artists To Look Out For: Gallant

Gallant, an up-and-coming artist from Los Angeles, has recently begun turning heads with a distinct R&B sound that is full of chilled out vibes. For his amount of talent, Gallant has a relatively small collection of songs on Soundcloud, with his debut “Zebra EP” being released just a year ago. Produced mainly by Felix Snow, with the exception of one Maths Time Joy production, the “Zebra EP” is a diverse project with a variety of influences from rock to old-school hip hop. The project was well received by the Soundcloud community and since then, Gallant kept a low profile until just last month, when he came back with his single, “Open Up”.

“Open Up” is an interesting work to say the least. It starts off with atmospheric effects that come together in unison after a beginning of calm chaos. Leading up to its lush chords, Gallant keeps the song moving forward with powerful vocals that he has been consistent with on all of his tracks. His singing is really what captivates the listener and is a vital part of what Gallant’s music really is.

His latest release, “Talking In Your Sleep”, also has an interesting array of sounds with solid songwriting surrounding the production. Showcasing his vocal ability, Gallant really takes the listener out for a full experience, with R&B elements tossed in with a sound scape that can be said to have a taste of Disclosure to it, but still unique enough for him to call his own. Gallant’s approach to this style of music is unique, utilizing the atmosphere surrounding the song to add to the emotion that he is trying to give to the listener. The textures and warmth of his music really are what makes this stand out, with the listener being able to really hear the song for what it is.

Gallant is definitely an artist to keep an ear out for, with his recent works showing nothing but improvement and artistic growth. Not much is known about this mysterious singer aside from the fact that he works out of Los Angeles and that his last two tracks were produced by Vancouver native Stint. He is also one of the two artists on the UK label, Mind of A Genius, who's second signee is none other than the EDM phenomena ZHU. With such moving music, there is no doubt that Gallant will soon become a household name among the electronic world and we will be following him closely. Keep an eye out for his upcoming EP, coming out this summer.
