5 Underground Female Powerhouses to See at Desert Hearts Festival 2022

The Desert Hearts crew is less than two weeks away from celebrating the 10-year anniversary of their renowned Desert Hearts Festival. It is certain that travel plans, camping arrangements, and adventuresome outfit planning are in the works, but most importantly- highlighting the names you refuse to miss during this four-day celebration.

To make this artist selection a bit easier for you, here are five female rising and established names that you should check out during this stacked weekend.

Beth Lydi – Having released both an album and EP under Desert Hearts Records, Beth Lydi’s ‘This is Love’ and ‘Windy Pipes’ showcase the robust range that the Norwegian has. Her curiosity for the world and music leads her discoveries of new sights and sounds to align perfectly with the Desert Hearts brand as they are constantly pushing the boundaries of where house and techno reside. As a co-owner of SNOE, managing artists, writing as a music journalist, producing music, and touring as a DJ, Beth wears many hats and her passion for music speaks through her unique music catalog. Yulia Niko – Heavily influenced by Detroit and Chicago house and connecting with music at the age of 14, Yulia Niko’s minimal deep tech sound has turned the heads of some of the most influential pioneers in the dance scene. She’s made her imprint on labels like Damian LazarusCrosstown Rebels, Dennis Ferrer’s Objektivity, and Jamie JonesHottrax. Niko’s sound certainly is memorable and her participation in many Desert Hearts Twitch livestreams over the past year displays how highly regarded her sound is. Now, listeners can finally enjoy this house and tech purveyor’s talents in person as she joins the 10-year celebration at Lake Perris. Francesca Lombardo – With a background in multiple disciplines including DJing and being a live performer, Francesca Lombardo’s talents behind the decks are very impressive. Her relationship with psychedelic breaks and dark techno has led the UK pioneer to participate with labels like Crosstown Rebels, Mobilee, Leftroom, Poker Flat Recordings, and focus on her label Echolette and Echoe. Echolette focuses on a mixture of techno and acid psychedelic breaks, as Echoe is her darker techno imprint. Her interest to embody the symbiotic relationship between the two displays her ample mind, which caught the ears of the Desert Hearts crew many years ago. She performed at the second edition of Desert Hearts Festival in 2014 and makes her return to celebrate the 10th anniversary next weekend. Mary Droppinz – Blazing from Omaha, Nebraska, and spreading her infectious energy that’s unsurpassed on and off the decks, Mary Droppinz’ Midwest roots and her harmonious talents keep the dance floor booming. Inspired by her father’s drumming skills, her unique sound is made up of electro house, techno, and breakbeats. From appearing on DHTV livestreams including their special Women’s Day Stream and their NYE and NYD celebrations in Denver and San Diego, she is making her name well-known across the dancefloor. Playing other big-name events like Dirtybird’s signature festival Dirtybird Campout and Dirtybird CampINN, she continues to make her way across many recognizable lineups. Anja Schneider – As one of the most influential tastemakers in electronic music, functioning as a producer, label owner, and mentor, Anja Schnieder is known for her prolonged history as an impressive DJ and Berlin Broadcaster. Earning the prime-time slot on Friday nights on RadioEins, her weekly show ‘Club Room’ is an international hit across FM and digital stations. Thanks to her mentoring skills and contribution to introducing a new generation of Berliners in electronic music since the early 2000s, Schnieder has left her trace on many talents thanks to her label Sous Music, where she’s emblazed the careers of techno talents like Francesca Lombardo.
