Gaining traction and notability in a saturated market is not easy to do; you need to take creative risks and push the envelope in order to cut through the noise and actually be heard. Ray Volpe again manages to make this look easy with his latest release “Save Me” out now on Thrive Music. Volpe’s emotionally unique sound is on full display here. The intro’s epic, hopeful chord progressions lull the listener into a false sense of security, only for the rug to be pulled out from underneath then and be assaulted by a bombastic bass section. Make no mistake about it, this is a very dynamic song which has elements from sugary pop to grimier bass.

Thankfully these contrasting tones are expertly mixed to create an extremely cathartic rollercoaster of emotion. This emotional connection, previously the cornerstone of a well written song, is just another small detail that helps the artist stand out from his contemporaries who often overlook it.

Lyrically everything is kept simple, with just enough of a hook for the audience to sing along to. These aren’t the poetic musings of W.B. Yeats, but I can certainly imagine the entire dance floor singing along to the song’s “Save Me” hook. At the end of the day, the content of the lyrics is less important than the emotional connection they create, and Volpe has certainly done that here.

So what more can be said, other than to keep your eye out for Ray Volpe on tour, you’d be mad to miss his set!
