Do you enjoy feelin’ the funk? Gettin’ in the groove? Sharin’ the soul? Dancin’ to the dub? Yeah, myself as well. Today I wanna share some tunes with you to add to your stash of fire. See if the name ‘Boogie T’ rings a bell. As a matter of fact, he recently released a stacked EP titled ‘Soul’d Out’ on Ganja White Night’s SubCarbon Records.
When listening to each of the 4 tracks on this EP, specific descriptions come to mind.
The first track ‘Sell Out” brings to mind ‘sweet & succulent’. Instead of kicking down the door first thing and coming in full force, he smoothly and suavely saunters into your eardrums to start off.
The second track ‘Beef’ has Boogie accompanied with Dirt Monkey. I like to think of this one as a delicious trip. If you close your eyes, its as tho they take you on a soulful journey through your mind. In this track you’ll hear Boogie’s signature guitar playing (which personally I’m a big fan of).
The third track ‘Raven Master’ brings the bounce. Boogie shows us how good he is with sampling as this one is full of a wide array of them including anything from pop songs, rasta vocals, Gucci mane, and beyond. He also lays out quite clearly what he feels can be changed in a lot of the music of today.
The final track of the EP ‘Shape Shifter’ can be simply described as groovy yet grimey. Accompanied by Subtronics on this one, I’m not surprised to see these guys creating such a well done hybrid track. Think of sweet & spicy. You wouldn’t at first think such two different flavors could go together so well. Its with that same idea that I feel this came out so well.
Lookin’ for something new? A refreshing switch up for your eardrums? Look no further. Boogie T has a slew of releases on various labels including Circus Records, SMOG, All Good Records, and more. You’re bound to find something to fit the setting you find yourself in.
