The name Nicole Moudaber may not ring any loud chiming bells for some people, but it definitely should. With luminous hair, giant lips, and an enticing stare, she is hard to forget. The Nigerian born "dark queen of techno" started out as a promoter in London, and quickly grabbed the dance-music-bull by its horns. With Carl Cox as a mentor (and close friend), its no surprise she exercises a deafening skill for deep arousing beats. In fact, Cox called her "the most underrated DJ" in 2009; now come 2015, she's been named one of the top female DJs to watch out for by Billboard.com.
Nicole recently blazed through this year's Miami Music Week with two huge showcases titled MoodDAY (at the Raleigh Hotel) and MoodNIGHT (at Trade Miami). Her weekly mix series, In the MOOD is already on episode 48; and i suggest you listen to every single one of them. Although her repeating use of the word "MOOD" is a definite play on the first syllable of her name, it also speaks in the context of her music. As you groove and bounce to her immersive switch back style, you can't help but be put in a deep, dazed state of mind. Plus, she has one of the sexiest voices in the music industry.
Nicole often listens to funk and jazz in the comfort of her own home, and experiments with such genres in her meticulous sets. She has collaborated with the likes of Carl Cox, Adam Beyer, and Danny Tenaglia (to name a few - the rest of her repertiore is just as fierce). Her personal philosophy is to play the music she loves, while creating for her fans an unforgettable atmosphere.
For those who have yet to see her perform, you're in luck. The techno vixen is currently on her North American tour. Her next New York appearances will be at OUTPUT in Brooklyn on Saturday April 4, and Mysterland USA this Memorial Day weekend.
