Wave Racer + Shawn Wasabi To Perform At The Roxy 9/18

The Roxy Theatre is going to be glowing neon this month. One of the biggest pioneers of future bass sound, and one of the hottest up-and-coming names in the controllerist movement, are going to have West Hollywood in 64 bit pixels this September 18th.

Wave Racer, aka Tom Purcell, exploded on to the scene in 2013, and has not lost any steam since. After dropping an initial two-song EP of tracks Stoopid and Rock U Tonite, the latter of which received a handful of awesome reworks, the Australian DJ/producer rocked the world with a slew of releases over the next two years. With remixes of artists from Foster the People to Duke Dumont, as well as another extremely sparkly single titled Streamers, Purcell has garnered himself a following of nearly 120 thousand on Soundcloud, and a play count number in the multi-millions.

Last month saw the drop of his latest single Flash Drive in anticipation of an eponymous EP, to be released October 16th via Future Classic. Featuring vocalist B▲by, this new track does well to prove Wave Racer’s uncanny ability to paint musical pictures reminiscent of racing through levels in Super Mario Kart 64.

20-year-old California native Shawn Serrano, aka Shawn Wasabi, has been "pounding" the scene with his recent midi-fighter performance video of his bubbly, hyper-sampled mashup, titled Marble Soda. The routine comprises of ten fingers, 64 arcade-game style buttons, and a whole lot of Wasabi wizardry.

With only five releases throughout his past two-year presence on Soundcloud, the majority of which are also mashups, it would seem that Shawn has gained his considerable following through his live performance skills, and a viewing of his Marble Soda video clearly shows he has the fast finger work that could make your grandmamma dizzy.
