Verboten's StageONE Festival Returns This Summer With Insane Lineups

June 15, 2015 -

Far before Verboten established their industrial heavy venue on Wythe Ave, the artistically driven team was throwing monstrous parties all over New York City. As summer progresses, and hot weather (hopefully) becomes the atmospheric default, it's a no brainer that its time for the Brooklyn venue to start putting on some fantastic outdoor events. Enter StageONE - Verboten's premiere event this season. With a MASSIVE lineup, art installations, delicious food vendors, and interactive projects - the events scheduled are ones that can't be missed. Set to take place on the scenic Brooklyn Waterfront - this is the epitome of summertime goodness. Let's break it down:

July 3: Last Day on Earth: SASHA / GUTI (Live) / SCUBA / AGORIA / KATE SIMKO / BRAD MILLER / JORIS VOORN (Special Guest)

In typical Verboten fashion, the kick off to their series is already one for the books. Returning for his third year, SASHA will be headlining - I had the pleasure of seeing the deep-beat headmaster perform at the venue's boat party last summer. He's so damn good that I actually forgot for a second that I couldn't swim and was surrounded by impending doom (aka...open water). Can't wait to see how much I enjoy him on land! Supporting will be Verboten's own resident DJ and techno wizard Guti, who's South American roots and musical prowess are nothing but crystal clear in his sets. Also playing will be Agoria, Kate Simko, Brad Miller, and special guest, Dutch synth-guru Joris Voorn. (FB Event Page)

August 23: JAMIE XX / MAYA JANE COLES / ANDHIM / MATADOR / NASTIA / BEDOUIN

Ahh, what an impeccable pairing! Jamie XX and Maya Jane Coles together, could we have asked for a more sensational collaboration? Both some of the dance community's most revered figures, its a given that this show will be absolutely major. Jamie's highly anticipated debut solo album released recently to rave reviews; and Maya's sheer 'female fatale' presence speaks almost as loud as her techno virtuoso. The lineup also includes heavyweights Andhim, Matador (this guy is a savage on the mixers), Nastia, and the Brooklyn native duo Bedouin! (FB Event Page)

September 6: Maceo Plex / DJ Tennis / David August (Live) / Special Guest DJ Koze

Maceo Plex, described as an entity whose fulfilling purpose in this world is to bring movement, feeling and funk to everyone (and everything) it encounters. The man behind the character, Eric Estornel, has been celebrated since the early 90's for his extremely diverse production style; creating one hell of a carbon footprint on the decades old rave culture. Second headliner DJ Tennis is always one for the books. Founder of Life and Death record label, and amusingly enough, an ex-tourmanager for a handful of punk rock bands - he's one of the mega players in the dance music world. His mixing style ranges from tangibly dark techno to flavors of the more psychedelic taste, bringing strong vibes wherever he performs. David August lends support, as well as DJ Koze - a massive special guest to top off the event.

September 19: Detroit Love SUBVERSIONS: Carl Craig presents Modular Pursuits with AUDION (Live) / Magda / Gaiser (Live) / Floorplan / Moodymann

Take a step back people, Carl Craig and AUDION (aka Matthew Dear) will be performing the closing event of Verboten's StageONE schedule. Could Verboten have gifted us a more powerful duo to tie off such a series? Let's talk about Craig first, a techno god by anyone's standards; as the headliner of the last StageONE event, you know he'll be bringing out all the big guns. I have only had the pleasure of seeing the Detroit heavyweight a handful of times, but every single show has topped the last. (Anyone remember when he played for Verboten's One Year Anniversary?)

Now to AUDION, who is Matthew Dear's alter ego. Whenever I describe this artist to someone, I continually find myself using the words "absolutely sickening". This is of course, in the best possible way. I had the chance to hear him speak alongside Richie Hawtin and Matador on a dance music/technology discussion panel back in May. The man is as intelligent and sharp as he is talented. His performance that followed was the type of set makes you feel like your playing an entire orchestra of air-instruments with your movements. This devious alter-ego, AUDION is just another facet of a brilliant mind. Supporting acts for the night include the beautiful Magda, Gaiser, Floorplan, and Moodymann!   (FB Event Page)

All events will take place at 50 Kent Ave, Brooklyn NY 11211 from 2pm - 10pm
