Hooligan, the latest collaboration from Tuslo and Holly opens with a literal bang. The two artists meld their strengths to deliver an ominous banger filled with heavy and often random percussion and a sinister aura. The song’s dark tone--considered a signature of Lisbon, Portugal-based rising trap star Holly, never subsides and provides for suspenseful climbs to entirely divergent drops, each holding their trap grime in their own unique way. The first comes with a drastic build-up surrounded with dramatic timbres including ghoulish scratches, echoed voices, and rapid, blasting percussive sounds like that of a door slamming in a horror movie. Over the track’s first crest lies a consistent throbbing melody and jarring synth that could surely be leaving every dance floor swaying for weeks to come. After another short round of build-up surrounded by what sounds like the background to a chase scene taking place in the African savannah late in the night, Tuslo show off their errant-percussion laden Future Trap style in the song’s second drop. The tone of this section feels entirely different with their use of sliding bass and electronic intonation. This track is exciting and easy to dance too, and provides both Holly and Tuslo the opportunity to display their individual talents in a coherent club hit. For more of Tuslo, look no further than AfterShock, a NGHTMRE and Boombox Cartel remix from January, or ICE, with Khan Don from earlier this month. If you want more of Holly’s hundred foot cliff drops, his track Heckler with Hounds was released just a few weeks ago has a stellar tropical intro leading into another face-melter.
