Philadelphia welcomed trance into its heart this past Saturday, January 12 when Sound Garden Hall invited the notorious Dutchman, Dash Berlin to its stage. The line outside the venue wrapped around the block where anxious EDM lovers waited amongst the heavy fog rising off the Deleware River listening to the vibrations of the bass against the black tinted Sound Garden Hall windows.
What we loved about Dash was the unique crowd he brought – first generation who came for the memorizing Trance sound, the wide smiles of the second generation, and the colorful happy go lucky Kandi Kids, each so different- each there for the same love, music.
What pleasantly surprised us the most was Dash Berlin’s set, and the energy he brought to the crowd. After he gave out to the crowd foam lights, the crowd seemed so majestic!
As much as we love trance, he catered to the crowd and fed our ears with electro house and dirty dubstep as well. When Dash dropped the epic “Sandstorm” by DaRude we could feel the crowd coming together, and when the tearjerker “Sun and Moon” by Above & Above was heard, everyone felt as one. By what we thought was the end of the set, he had everyone chanting, “DASH BERLIN! DASH BERLIN” and with his ipad held high reading, “ONE MORE??” the room went absolutely nuts. Dash had the perfect song for the perfect ending, Alesso-Years. But although Dash Berlin was finished, we were not ready to end our night! Not quite.
After the show we stuck around to talk with Dash and found out that he is just the sweetest guy ever; dishing out foam glow sticks, throwing up hearts at the audience during the show, passing out free water, and staying longer to sign anything people would toss at him. Dash Berlin was prepped for anything, as he had about 50 different colors and sizes of sharpies. This guy is unbelievable! One of us had our fanny pack (fan fan!) signed as well as countless glow sticks. What made us laugh was when he signed our friend and fellow writer Brett B’s shirt, and said to him “Wait you want me to sign your shirt? I have the same one! I got it in Argentina!” We guess Brett and Dash have the same good taste then! Leaving with smiles and some signed things from Dash, our favorite part of the night was our photo with the Daily Beat family and him.
But us ragers weren’t ready to stop partying just yet! We headed up the stairs to the after party area, snatched up a few drinks, and got down until the sun came up. With our ever favorite electro-house bumping throughout the venue with Elvis Suarez, this was now the perfect end to the night.
