On Hollywood’s biggest night the stars did not disappoint at the 86th Annual Academy Awards. Stars from film, music and television all gathered to celebrate this year’s biggest achievements on screen and behind the scenes. There were so many films to honor last night, for their actor’s, direction, production and writing. The Oscars red carpet is known for its classic glamour and Hollywood prestige. This red carpet was filled with sequins, white-hot stunners, gowns with pops of color and striking silhouettes. Muted colors seemed to be on trend for Oscar goe’ers, gowns worn by Jessica Biel dressed in Chanel Couture and Portia de Rossi in Naeem Khan sparkled and shined on the carpet. Many of the looks were timeless and elegant, there were not many risk takers on this particular red carpet, these actors left the risk for the films. We can’t forget about the men of Hollywood on this night, many of these nominee’s looked suave and sexy in their take’s on the traditional tuxedo. There were many highlights in fashion last night accompanied by many lows on the carpet. Some attendee’s did not uphold the dress code and some of the looks were sub par.
Hits
5. Sandra Bullock
This Oscar nominated actress may not have won the Academy Award, but she won in our best-dressed category. Sandra Bullock looks absolutely timeless in this navy Alexander McQueen dress reminiscent of the 1940’s. This curve-hugging gown accentuates her waist and drapes perfectly to the ground creating the illusion that she is 7 ft. tall. This Gravity actress proves she can transition from a space suit to a gorgeous gown and still manage to look amazing in both contexts. We are glad she chose a gown for this occasion, well done Sandra.
4. Jennifer Lawrence
Here she is the ever so perfect girl-on-fire, Jennifer Lawrence. This two time Oscar nominated actress looked fabulous in this Dior number. Miraculously, she managed to be standing on two feet in this picture, and recovered from the fall she suffered from a few minutes beforehand! She has been racking up the Dior dresses in her closet this awards season but this one proves to be the winning look. She looks great in this red orange sleek gown accompanied by slick backed hair. Loving the peplum additions on the side of her dress that give her some shape as well. Her skin looks flawless and this deep lipstick shade against her creamy skin brings the whole look together. Also, I must not neglect to mention her Neil Lane diamond necklace that drapes down from her neck to her back, just lavish. Overall very sleek and sexy JLaw we approve.
3. Cate Blanchett
Cate Blanchett gets our vote, this Academy Award winning actress for Blue Jasmine proves that female leads are crucial to film and her dress proves that she is worthy of her title. Blanchett is known for her risky red carpet looks and this one does not go unnoticed. Looking flawless in this nude Armani gown accompanied by cream and gold detailed clusters that just stand out on the carpet. There were a lot of ladies wearing sheer nude gowns last night but Cate’s look is sheer perfection.
2. Kate Hudson
Why expect anything less than chic from Ms. Hudson? Kate Hudson brings classic Hollywood glam back in this silky white Atelier Versace gown accompanied by a small cape that drapes ever so slightly over her shoulders to her low back and plunging neckline in the front. This is a timeless look that shows her elegance and edginess. She knows how to complete a look and is perfectly styled with a simple hair blowout and gorgeous jewels by Neil Lane to bring this look together. She proves to be the top goddess in white last night looking positively regal on the red carpet.
1. Lupita Nyong'o
Oscar Award winner, for best supporting actress in 12 Years a Slave, Lupita Nyong’o, stuns in Prada. She has been rocking the red carpet this awards season with jaw dropping looks without fail, this final look included. This particular gown is simply pleated, elegant and sexy. This was made for her, quite literally, with this custom Prada gown, she even had a say in the design. Her accessories finish this look with a few soft touches of gold to complement the pale blue dress against her stunning dark skin tone.
Honorable Mention Male Fashionisto: Jared Leto
Oscar Award winner, Jared Leto admits that he doesn’t ever wear suits, but boy are we glad he did last night. He looked incredibly suave in this old school inspired look with a white tuxedo jacket paired with a red silk bowtie and black pants with satin detail on the side of his pant leg. He had a great award season this year, who knows maybe this rock star will stay on screen instead of returning to the stage.

5. Anna Kendrick
Anna Kendrick’s ensemble designed by J. Mendel was an asymmetrical mess of various fabrics in the front. The only redeeming quality about this gown is the criss-cross detailing of the black straps in the back, which were edgy and chic. I wish we could only see this dress from the back, sorry Anna not so pitch perfect last night.
4. Lady Gaga
Lady Gaga? Is that you? We are not used to seeing such a “normal” look on her. This curve-hugging gown resembles the Chrysler building and does not show us anything unique about her. The large chiffon scarf adds nothing to this look and we did not expect such a safe look from the singer who pushes boundaries constantly. I almost wish she arrived in an egg, just to give us something to talk about.
3. Penelope Cruz
Plot twist, Penelope Cruz shows up to the Oscar’s ready for a toga party. This Giambattista Valli Haute Couture silk gown accompanied with a long shawl is reminiscent of a baby blanket; maybe she was cold on the carpet and needed something to keep warm. This outdated look was certainly a snooze for fashion’s biggest night and overpowered her slim figure.
2. Gabourey Sidibe
I give you props for wearing such a vibrant color, Gabourey Sidibe, however this is a little too much fuchsia for my taste. This Theia gown provides a nice silhouette for the actress, but the texture of the dress and the color make her look like a bouquet made of paper flowers. I appreciate the effort to be unique on the carpet but next time stray away from the flower shop in your styling appointment.
1. Pharrell Williams
Well Pharrell you did it again, made it to the worst dressed list for round two. Dressed in Lanvin, these tuxedo shorts did not accentuate his best features and in the end let us know that he did not get the memo that there is a dress code for Hollywood’s biggest night. Maybe next time he’ll get it right. At least he isn’t wearing that tragic hat he’s been rocking lately. He saved that for his performance of Happy during the ceremony of course.
