By now, we're all familiar with TOKiMONSTA, the Los Angeles native who helped put the beat scene on the map years before the media invented the term "future bass." She and long-time friend and collaborator, Gavin Turek, are set to release a much-anticipated EP on July 31 through Young Art Records. Rightfully entitled You're Invited, the album will feature seven tracks.
TOKiMONSTA, aka Jennifer Lee, and Turek are no strangers to joint productions: Turek sings on "Clean Slate," from Lee's 2013 Half Shadows EP; her dreamy vocals also appear on "Darkest (Dim)" and "Little Pleasures," both from Lee's 2011 Creature Dreams EP.
Although it still has yet to be released, I'm already touting You're Invited as the ideal consummation of two forward-thinking musicians, resulting in an icy blend of electronic-encased R&B. Why? Either artist's musical background equates to an otherworldly blend: Turek's inspirations as a singer-songwriter include Diana Ross and Donna Summer, while TOKiMONSTA goes as far as using her own heartbeat as a live instrument in her performances. To give us a taste of what their joint EP will sound like, TOKiMONSTA put a futuristic spin on Turek's "Frontline," streaming below.

TOKiMONSTA and Gavin Turek are currently on a mini-tour that stops in Brooklyn on July 24 at Baby's All Right. Tickets are sold out for this show, but if you're willing you might be able to catch another date, all of which are listed on Turek's website. TOKiMONSTA's performance at Moonrise 2014 will forever be instilled in my memory -- she was one of the few beat scene artists on the event's line-up, alongside Mr. Carmack and Shiftee -- so you can trust in the fact that this tour will be one you don't want to skip out on.
