Throwback Thursday Sample(s) of the Week

July 11, 2013 -

What's up guys! Unfortunately, due to some 4th of July festivities last week, I was unable to hit you guys up with a sample. But don't fret, because I'm giving you guys two samples for the price of one this week. The first sample features a smooth, laid-back joint by John Legend that was used by Questlove for a song by The Roots. The Roots rarely sample. And when I say they rarely sample, I mean I can probably count on 2 hands the number of songs they've done that directly sampled.

"Again" - John Legend

"Doin' It Again" - The Roots

For the second sample of the week, we're gonna go way back to 1988 with a hit that launched the careers of one of the greatest hip-hop groups of all time: De La Soul.

"(Not Just) Knee Deep" - Funkadelic

Sampled by...

"Me Myself & I" - De La Soul
