In an significantly male dominated industry, it is a real breath of fresh air to come across such a talented female producer. Hannah Wants is an artist who was introduced to me by my brother over a month ago, and since then I have been desperate to sit down and write a spotlight on her, but just didn't find the time to do so.
Hannah Wants (real name Hannah Alicia Smith) grew up in the UK's Birmingham, around a very musical family, exposed to everything from Soul and R&B, to Indie and the emerging House scene of the 90's. It was from these influences that Hannah began to hone her DJing style, and after receiving a set of Technic Vinyl Decks for her seventeenth birthday, she mix tracks, and create her own bass driven sound. Hannah quickly moved into musical production as well, especially with long time collaborator Chris Lorenzo, producing bass heavy 'Jackin' House' tracks, a genre which I was unfamiliar with prior to discovering Hannah, but instantly fell in love with. The incredible thing about Jackin' House, is that it has the same underground, soulful sound as deep house, but yet has so much more energy in its beat, that makes it even more perfect to dance to. Hannah Wants is by far my favourite underground DJ at the moment, and her stand out track for me is definitely 'I Still Love You', alongside Chris Lorenzo which features an absolutely incredible vocal, and some tasty Jackin' House beats.
So I'm sure after reading all this all of you are desperate to grab Hannah Wants' music right now. Well I have some even more exciting news for you, as recently, after reaching 20,000 followers on soundcloud, Hannah released thirteen of her tracks all for free download from her soundcloud, and if I were you, I would grab every single one whilst you have the chance! Hannah has gigs coming up across the UK, including London's Cable next Friday, so head on down there if you are interested! Check out her sounds below!
