As if that last What So Not track wasn't enough for us, Flume just dropped another vicious bomb with his interpretation of Sam Smith's Lay Me Down. Sam is easily one of the biggest rising talents right now and after collaborating with Disclosure we totally imagined he would be working with more EDM acts in the future. With Flume's biggest track being his remix of Disclosure's You & Me, the connection was obvious and we couldn't be happier with the results.
Flume took on a future bass attitude staying true to his minimal yet effective production techniques with hip hop influence. His knack for layering synthesizers puts the listener into a dream as Flume guides us through an extremely unpredictable structure that feels original yet completely personal. Our favorite thing about this song is the way it fades out with a mysterious chop of Sam's vocals. Although fade outs are quite common in music, EDM stays away from the technique because of how unfriendly it can be to a DJ. It is something simple yet effective for Flume's style and it has left us wondering what else Flume is cooking up for 2015.
