Last year Thee Cool Cats released their debut track on Dear Deer Records; their original mix of “Don’t Kill My Vibe”. A year later Dear Deer has released a three track remix pack out now on Beatport! All three remixes bring something different to the table and it is definitely worth picking up the pack if you are fan of nu-disco and house. However, like with all things there is bound to be a favorite and the remix by Ryan Collins and Bijou is hands down mine.
While the original track blends the monotone yet melodic vocals of Kendrick Lamar with a crisp up-tempo four on the floor beat accompanied by plenty of nu-disco sound and feel. This remix takes a more celestial vibe in the beginning with very spacey chords that accompany Kendrick’s vocals pretty much perfectly. The percussion on the track is absolutely on point that if a DJ played this day three of a festival and you had nothing left in the tank you would still get up and groove along. When the drop comes in the spacey wide openness of the song focuses into a vicious G house beat that is soon accompanied by those beautiful spacey chords.
The entire track gives me the feeling of being at the Lightning in a Bottle at the Woogie stage during sunset dancing with all of my friends, and honestly not that many things can top that feeling.
For a song to be able to create that sense of feeling is a powerful thing and that is what makes music so beautiful. You can check out more from Dear Deer Records, Bijou, and Ryan Collins on SoundCloud and purchase the “Don’t Kill My Vibe” Remix Pack over on Beatport.
