RL Grime Invades Tampa with DJEMBA DJEMBA and Tommy Kruise

Last Thursday evening Daily Beat headed to the palatial Ritz Ybor venue in Tampa, Florida where RL Grime's U.S. VOID tour made its 27th stop. The VOID tour, presented by AEG Live, consisted of RL Grime with support from DJEMBA DJEMBA and Tommy Kruise. The trio started its long journey in Seattle and were ready to bring out the big guns for Tampa without hesitation.

The venue took a few hours to fill up completely, but overall it was a successful night for partythrowers and partygoers alike. The lighting, in combination with the music, created a welcoming atmosphere that any attendee would agree was pretty freakin' amazing. The room was lightly illuminated in the beginning to slowly lure everyone in and create anticipation for the main attraction.

Tommy Kruise began with what was a refreshing hour+ worth of hip-hop and trap beats. It was obvious that the crowd enjoyed every second in light of the fact that they stayed glued to their spots on the floor the entire time. Tommy's long hair flailed around uncontrollably, making it easy to tell that he was really into what he was throwing down - and so were we.

DJEMBA DJEMBA took things to another level of ratchery when it was his turn to spin the decks. In my opinion, he absolutely SLAYED the place. Non-stop movement flooded the venue, making it evident that the crowd was in full turn-up mode. Knowing Tampa's taste in electronic music, it's safe to say that everyone was well satisfied far before RL Grime stepped up to the plate.

RL Grime immediately immersed the building with a heavy dose Ratchetology 101. The overwhelming bass consumed our ears and left us dancing wildly in the middle of a sweaty assembly. As things settled in, he executed several fan-favorites like his remix of Chief Keef's "Love Sosa" and "Valhalla," a track co-produced with DJEMBA DJEMBA on his recent VOID LP. After RL spun the last track of the night, the crowd wasn't quite ready to leave so they begged him for one more song. He gave in and finished off with his popular collab with What So Not "Tell Me," concluding the evening perfectly.
