Goldenvoice’s Portola festival turns 5 this year and their latest lineup is just as buzz-worthy as ever, showcasing the likes of Dog Blood, Swedish House Mafia, Soulwax, Four Tet, and many more taking place Saturday, September 26 and Sunday, September 27 at Pier 80.
San Francisco is the place to be in September. Whereas Coachella and Outside Lands may cater to a more pop-influenced festival goer, Portola brings the best in left-field electronic. Ever since they put Chemical Brothers headlining their inaugural festival in 2022, they’ve solidified themselves as the saviors of modern electronic music, unafraid to give good set times to the heroes that made the genre what it is today. They can put on 90’s beat legend DJ Shadow all while selling heaps of tickets with big name headliners.
2026 is here and we can’t be more excited. At first glance we see that Boys Noize and Skrillex are officially reuniting as Dog Blood. With Boys Noize recently off of a massive tour/album with Nine Inch Nails, this makes perfect sense. He is at the peak of his game- able to match the headliner pull of Skrillex but bringing that unique German techno indie heat that he does so well. They recently reunited for a surprise B2B at the cruise line festival Friendship 2024. Their last official performances were Hard Summer 2017 and Buku Festival 2019, so clearly it’s been a long wait to get them back on a lineup.
There’s too many amazing artists on this bill including Portola heavyweight, Four Tet- we are hoping for a mainstage set this time around! Caribou has performed before, but this time we’re treated to a Daphni set, which will be great considering his latest ‘Butterfly’ record.
In terms of live bands, we cannot wait for Parcels to make their long awaited Portola debut! That’s gonna be an epic disco dance party full of French touch hits. Then of course, Soulwax returns with a live set and a residency at their acclaimed Despacio dark tent disco stage.
Overall this lineup satisfies us on so many different levels. The anticipation is high and we cannot wait to be back out there on the pier.
