Popof is known back home in Paris as a dance music pioneer. Also known as Alexandre Paounov, he began DJing in the mid-nineties at underground raves, alongside the Heretik System collective. He's come far since then: in the past two decades, he's brandished clubs all over the world with his minimal techno and tech-house affinity. Rightfully so, Popof won the Best Newcomer Artist Award at the Ibiza DJ Awards in 2009.
"Words Gone" is Popof's latest single, straight off his forthcoming album, Love Somebody, out on June 29 via Hot Creations. Featuring the voice of Arno Joey, "Words Gone" is a sensual slice of electronic music, hovering in a place that allows extensive crossover appeal. The single boasts sparkling remixes from several hefty players in dance music: Luciano’s remix dives into tribal percussion, while Hot Creations' head honcho, Jamie Jones, flips the track to bring in a new melody, a lower register, and emotive keys. Techno luminary, Marc Houle, is last to remix, using a bright synth melody to add a new groove. "Words Gone" is melodic, polished, and chilled-out – the perfect pool party soundtrack.
Co-owned by Jamie Jones and Lee Foss, the groundbreaking independent dance label, Hot Creations, has gained global notoriety in recent years through pioneering a new and unique sound born of its founders deep adoration with old disco records, underground house, soulful beats, and cutting edge techno. The label has championed the music and incredibly successful talent of Miguel Campbell, Digitaria, Denney, Richy Ahmed, Patrick Topping, and of course Jamie Jones and Lee Foss themselves.
