NYC Bass Collective's Beat Street Party Returns To Brooklyn

August 28, 2015 -

NYC Bass Collective and Vitamin B's Beat Street Party will be returning this month at The Graham in Williamsburg this Saturday! For those who are unfamiliar, the Beat Street series celebrates the old school break beat style that is exceptionally relevant in almost all of modern day music. A little background; break beats are an essential component of a variety of musical styles including hip hop, jazz, techno, house, bass, and of course, mixing. Although it is often brushed to the side as it is an element of musical production rather than wide genre - using its factors as the driving force behind an entire performance comprises an impressive and refreshing event.

This month's Beat Street party will be headlined by Keith MacKenzie - who was originally scheduled to play the first event of the series before bearing an unfortunate accident. We are so glad he's back in good health, and ready to throw down some funky Nu Skool tunes! MacKenzie is a Chicago based artist who first developed his passions during the legendary 90's Florida rave scene. Since then he has been involved with an impressive dealing of labels, as well as starting his own: Illeleven: Eleven Recordings. Over the past three years he has dabbled with different genres alongside Fixx and D:RC, forming the collective Smookie Illson and developing a signature trap sound. The group's 2013 release "Club Action" (Yo Majesty) gained support from the famed Diplo, Baauer, RL Grime, and more. For this event, Keith will be stretching back to his break beat roots and spinning an experimental and forward thinking performance. Check out his latest mix below to get a feel for his taste.

Lending support will be Monikkr, Kristin Lush, The Beat Kitty, Tim The Enchanter, and Beatslappaz; with visual and artistic direction by the astounding Ben Moon. The event is free before midnight with RSVP - don't miss out on this refreshing take on a classic style!
