Mysteryland Artist Spotlight: Alan Fitzpatrick

May 14, 2015 -

Milli Encarnacion

Joining the ranks of Movement, CRSSD, and Ultra's Resistance stage is a large part of Mysteryland's line-up, which includes a full day of underground sounds from Adam Beyer's label, Drumcode. Alan Fitzpatrick fits right in.

Fitzpatrick's music is packed with piercing synths and percussive power, a nod to the techno legends from whom he drew heavy inspiration. A late-2000s inductee into the esteemed record label, Fitzpatrick grabs you by the hand and takes you back to the '90s, to a time when commercial success in electronic music was nothing but a far-fetched notion. His tracks take you on drawn-out journeys that are free of drops or gimmicks, yet still melodious enough to hold an air of unpredictability. He's in the midst of a meteoric rise: since beginning his global electronic reign in 2008, he's been tapped to record a BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix, and he debuted at #85 on Resident Advisor's Top 100 Poll of 2014. Toss this in with the fact that he currently holds regular guest appearances at clubs – and now festivals – from Ibiza to Singapore, as well as praise from legends Carl Cox and John Digweed, and there lies no doubt that Alan Fitzpatrick will graduate to headliner status for the next round of festivals. You may recognize his remix of "I Want You" by Trus'me (streaming below), Ibiza's de facto anthem last summer.

Fitzpatrick mentioned to Decoded Magazine at the end of last year that he would be performing a "live" show at select events in 2015. Would it be unusual to hope that Mysteryland might be one of them? Get lost in his beats Sunday at the the Drumcode stage.
