Moon Boots Launches His Verboten Residency With Some Zero Gravity Funk

August 25, 2015 -

A Moon Boots performance is a sight for sore eyes; with his contagious smile and undeniable joy plastered across his face - its easy to see that the intergalactic king of funk loves what he does -- and we love to listen. This past Saturday (August 15, 2015) the Chicago hailing astronaut (although he also has a summer house on the moon) launched his Verboten residency in Brooklyn, New York. To no one's surprise, Mr. Dougherty brought the zero gravity funk with a few tricks up his sleeve. I got to speak with his manager very briefly, who mentioned Moon Boots recently had an accident in Denver and was advised to keep it lowkey for the next few weeks. But being the unofficial master of space and disco, there was no time for rest.

We entered the venue around 12:30am; I had the splendid pleasure of bringing  friend who has never been to Verboten before. A stunning night to open your eyes for the first time, don't you think?

Although we could only stay for the two and a half hours that Moon Boots played, that's all we needed. The disco spinning producer had the crowd in high spirits throughout his entire performance. Keeping the hunger for funk strong, he started off slightly mellow, marinading with tracks like Chocki Hoxton's In The Street and the classic Touch Idol's Teen Classics. The progressive and vibrant DJ has impeccable skill for mixing modern melodies with old school tunes - creating his signature elation heavy sound. He continued throughout the night with an intoxicating sublimation of stylized groove -- dropping new tracks like the paradise-savvy Utopia, complete with the most lovely bellowing vocals of Janelle Kroll - and the romantic C.Y.S., which had us in a floating heart type frenzy. Mr. Doughtery delivered exactly what was to be expected and more, utilizing Verboten's massive disco ball and intimate atmosphere to its full capacity.

We ended up leaving the venue around 3:30am, feeling completely satisfied (but always wanting more Moon Boots). The French Express wizard completely blew us away, as usual - mixing an impressive repertoire that showcased his deep knowledge of this exciting genre while dancing around the decks in the most alluring fashion. Much respect for the disco spaceman and his extremely evident passion for what he loves. Until next time - Stay dancing!
