Following the recent release of a lead single for an original motion picture soundtrack, Dutch duo East & Young are capitalizing on popular trends once again with a remix of Louis The Child and Icona Pop’s smash party single Weekend.
The duo, made up of East Holland natives Marc van Oosterbaan and Ivo de Jong, continue to build their reputation as one of the most consistent progressive house acts in the industry. Much like their contribution on the collaborative single Make Me Feel with the highly respected Swedish duo Galantis from the Netflix original XOXO released just one week ago, the remix reflects East & Young’s well-established euphoric, 4-on-the-floor style.
The track feels more naturally danceable right off the bat thanks to its rhythmic introductory percussion pattern. Its two drops are remarkably different than those of the original with smooth synth melodies sounding like warped vocals and thumping house-style bass hits. What stands out most to me; however, is the duo’s decision to drop the tempo dramatically during the verse and each of the choruses. Likely a choice made in order to emphasize their more joyous take on the track.
East & Young are great at finding ways to blend their distinct style cleanly into releases from a variety of genres and this is just another example of the duo’s ability to put their trademark progressive house on nearly any project.
