Life In Color Ready With Keys N Krates

Daily Beat Staff

Over time, Keys N Krates has become a solidified crowd favorite in electronic music and left us with a ton of great memories along the way. From the first time we heard "Dum Dee Dum" to the Tampa stage streaker, to sold out clubs and festival performances internationally. Keys N Krates never disappoints. January 16th, 2016 Keys N Krates will be bringing their talents to Life In Color MIAMI. This is going to be a massive start to the year, with a STACKED line up including Jack Ü, Big Sean, Ruby Rose, Zeds Dead, Flosstradamus and more. Definitely a night you won't want to miss. I caught up with Keys N Krates to talk about their history, Life In Color and their upcoming Midnite Mass tour.

DB: Being a three-piece band, you guys are unique in the electronic music landscape. How did this come about? Are there any other styles of music you’ve been involved in?

Flo:  Matisse and Tune met in college at music school, and I met the two of them through a mutual friend.  We all come from different backgrounds.  Matisse comes from playing in soul and funk bands and doing his own RnB stuff.  Tune comes from playing in Soul, Blues, Country bands and has an audio engineering back ground.  I have a competitive Turntablist background, doing DMC and ITF battles.  When we all linked up we had an instant live chemistry and we eventually all grew into being producers together.

DB: What challenges have you faced being different from the crowd?

Matisse:  We get booked on a lot of EDM festivals and we don’t always work there.  There’s kids that go to those things that are super progressive and specific about their music and are looking for new fresh stuff and we tend to appeal to those kids.  However, there are also crowds that want to hear the same old formulaic music delivered in the same old formulaic by some dudes standing on a table, and we don’t really work as well in those scenarios.

DB: Is this your first Life In Color?  What are you most excited about?

Flo:  I believe we played a couple in western Canada a few years back.  I guess the paint will be fun?

DB: How does Miami measure up to other cities for you? Favorite Florida city to play?

Tune:  Florida in general always shows us so much love, but to be honest we’ve only played Miami once or twice and it was years back, so we are excited to get back there for this show.

DB: I caught you guys at venue 578 in Orlando, very impressive, what is your goal when you play live?

Flo:  To deliver and awesome unique dance party and entertaining show.

DB: Recently you guys released “U Already Know”, Great track. Can we expect more new music in the near future?

Tune:  Yup!  Our new ep “Midnite Mass” drops January 15th!

DB: Directly after Life In Color you guys leave on the Midnite Mass Tour w/ Stooki Sound, Ganz, Hermitude, and Jesse Slayter. Tell us more about that.

Flo:  So excited for that!  Everything from the production, to the support is derived from vibes that influenced the Midnite Mass EP.  We want the show to feel like a bit of religious gathering, powered by great epic music.
