Los Angeles based Alina Baraz is currently taking the country by storm with her Let’s Get Lost Tour, a celebration of her extremely successful Urban Flora EP as well as a taste into what’s to come for this modern R&B goddess.
Last time Alina went on tour she took on much smaller venues, as would any internet-popular artist would do at first. To our surprise her dates continued to sell-out proving that her fan base was stronger than predicted. Now she’s back with another string of shows and we were lucky to catch her at the end of the dates with her sold-out show in Los Angeles.
As expected the venue was packed and excited upon entry. Alina Baraz has a type of cult following where anyone who has heard of her knows that she is destined for big things as an artist. Her grasp on musical diversity and seductive lyricism has created something very unique to R&B that is completely addictive and obsession worthy. The hype was real and we could feel it.
Her backing band started off the show with some jazzy instrumental pieces that showcased their skills as individual musicians. The performance reached an intense climax which followed with a dimming of lights and an ocean of screams from the audience. With a dark stage and a few minimal lights, the star of the night stepped into view looking as beautiful as ever and singing the opening lines, “Rising like the smoke you linger on me” from her track 'Show Me'. At this point her Urban Flora EP is around three years old with dozens of millions of plays which translates to each song holding a certain place in everyone’s heart during this performance.
The feels hit strong all night. Looking around everyone was either making out with their bae or crying because they longed for a romance as powerful as the ones illustrated in Alina’s music.
I only miss you when the sun goes down
Oh, your voice is my favorite sound
Swaying like the palm trees
You and me we're poetry
Painting stories with our lips
The show hit its peak when Alina performed her recently debuted single 'Electric' featuring Khalid who made a surprise appearance which set the crowd off like no other. Overall her short song collection resulted in a short performance clocking in a bit under an hour but the amount of energy delivered in her stage presence made up for that.
