Lately in Music & Style: Riff Raff, '90s Comebacks, and JAUZ's New Snapback

March 24, 2015 -

Milli Encarnacion

March 7 – March 21. The dance music world's been through a whirlwind of things these past two weeks. SXSW happened, and now artists are preparing for another week-long party as Miami Music Week and Ultra Music Festival draw closer. See what they've packed for all this globe-trotting below.

Mija and Riff Raff are, like, totally twinsies

riff raff mija

riff raff is my spirit animal – @hi_mija

It's almost as though they have the same stylist. The similarity is uncanny, no? Oh, you disagree? Oh. Up next: a joint appearance on some random fashion news outlet's "Who Wore it Better? EDM Edition."

Elliphant turns heads in '90s neon

Big thanx @nylonmag fo a blissed night! – @elliphantmusic

This trend of '90s-style jackets is taking off tremendously. Swedish musician Elliphant toured the party circuit at SXSW last week, and she hit up NYLON's event in this neon number, paired with a body chain and statement necklace. Adidas makes a similarly eye-catching track jacket.

Kittens and Converse for Cashmere Cat

@cashmerecat

Cashmere Cat is gaining momentum as a producer for the modern generation. He played his first-ever New York show at Webster Hall last Friday (and his parents flew all the way from Norway to witness this momentous event). Before that, he rocked out with Ariana Grande at Madison Square Garden, performing their hits "Adore" and "Be My Baby." With humble charm, he subtly plugs his moniker via these graphic socks. For similar styles, here's sock heaven at Urban Outfitters.

Amine Edge kick back at Ministry of Sound

We had a sick night at Ministry Of Sound once again, and to finish there was lasagna in the office – @amineedge

There's a nightclub, and then there's Ministry of Sound – London's premier spot for a night of pure dance. Amine Edge provide the perfect soundtrack for the kind of booty-shaking music that the entertainment empire calls for. They have the G-house genre on lock (just listen to this 2013 mix recorded at Eden in Ibiza). Adding to their funkified image, here they don ripped denim and flannel, but what really strikes me is that bucket hat. I wouldn't be surprised if bucket hats are as common as snapbacks are in current street fashion. There's an entire category of them available at KarmaLoop, but if you want to turn heads while expressing your aggression, get the "Fuck You Soup" design by Ktag NYC.

JAUZ pays tribute to his fans

Keep your hopes up high and your head down low...always remain humble – @jauzofficial

Quoting A Day to Remember, JAUZ says thanks to his fans – AKA the Shark Squad (^^^) – with this custom snapback. While it's up in the air whether or not it will be available as merch, you can nab the Major Lazer shirt he's wearing at the Mad Decent online shop. However, the Shark Squad seems to be rallying like crazy over the exclusivity of this snapback, so hopefully we'll see some new JAUZ merch in the near future.

FKA Twigs is a rainbow in McQueen

thankyou [sic] to @karenclarkson@naokoscintu@soichiinagaki – @fkatwigs

"Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty" opened in London two weeks ago, causing stars to bring out their flashiest couture for the exhibit's opening night gala. Among them, FKA Twigs stood out in vintage McQueen, wearing his "Birds of a Feather" dress (see more photos here). Feeling inspired, but lacking of an occasion to wear a fancy, feather-frilled gown to? Try the Wings Floral sneakers by Adidas x Jeremy Scott.

Hannah Wants indulges in Balmain

Another addition for my summer shoe game... Balmain - Ranger Boots. IN LOVE! Need to hunt down the black leather and gold version too. #black#silver#balmain – @hannah_wants

Between touring the globe, Night Bass favorite Hannah Wants found her way to these Balmain cut-out boots, and I have to say... I'm in love, too. Understanding you might not have a G to shell out for the same pair, here are some Jeffrey Campbells that might be a little bit friendlier to your wallet.

Riff Raff and his Rolex and his MCM bag and his... presumably designer shorts

RUDOLPH THE RED NOSE ROLEX – @jodyhighroller

I began this feature with Riff Raff, so naturally I'll end it with him, too. He might not be at the top of everyone's "Most Played" list, but he's earning a living off of any words that are said about him. I wonder if he stashes his cash in this "Jody High Roller" wallet from Shop Jeen. Regardless, the classic MCM is making a comeback this season, and while that briefcase might cost a fortune, you can get your hands on this brightly printed bag from Herschel Supply Co that holds similar appeal.
