Jonas Rathsman Talks "Wolfsbane" and The Secret to a Great Beard

April 8, 2015 -

Daily Beat Staff

Just last week Daily Beat had the extreme pleasure of sitting down with Jonas Rathsman. This Swedish born DJ & producer has been absolutely tearing up the UK scene. Jonas was deemed a ‘Future Star of 2013’ by BBC Radio 1’s own Pete Tong. His textured deep groove was the perfect compliment to Disclosure’s Wild Life party lineup, which took the warehouse feel to new heights as people poured in for his set.

We shared some drinks, some laughs, and a few stories as we asked Jonas a bit about what’s going on with his music lately.

DB: So tell me a little about your new release "Wolfsbane".

Wolfsbane, yeah I’ve had that track for almost two years, I produced it two years ago. But it had just been lying in my laptop for the longest time, and I’ve always had a feeling for that track and finally got the chance to do something with it.

DB: And it’s the first release on Disclosures' Method White, correct?

Yeah so at the time they didn’t want to sign it to French Express because it didn’t quite fit the label. Eventually, Disclosure came to one of my shows in London, heard the track and wanted to sign it.

DB: How about about the video and the artwork?

Well since the beginning I’ve always done my own artwork because I come from a graphic design background, however for this release I hired someone from the UK. It’s a company called Studio Moross. I wanted to keep the same idea of the face, so they did a rework of one of my old designs and I’m happy with how it came out.

DB: So you’re from Gothenburg Sweden, and according to the interwebs you used to throw and promote a lot of parties? Would you say that played a role in how you got to the position you’re at today.

I would say no and yes. If it weren’t for promoting parties I guess I wouldn’t be here. I started promoting then started djing and producing on the side. I’ve always been a creative person and I just really got into music.

DB: Last question, the people want to know. How do you keep the beard so manly and on point?

Haha The secret is scissors not trimmers, I actually got deep into this conversation for like an hour the other day.

He also let us know he’s currently working with some really great vocalists in his studio in Sweden, and we can expect some awesome collaborations which are currently in the works.
