Where do we begin with this kid... JayKode is hands down the most innovate trap producer and we were lucky enough to watch his progression from greatness to beyond. After slowly feeding us track after track of madness and creativity, he's back with an EP on Unborn Records. He is still relatively on the come up but we're looking forward to more support for his music on the festival circuit this Summer as well as some more attention throughout the webs.
For now we have this EP, something more left field for JayKode. The first track Intro features an arpeggiated piano floating over atmospheric waves that soon become sliced open with a vicious snare drum. It's a grand presentation of something minimal yet both heavenly and aggressive at the same time. It builds up into what we think is gonna be a drop but soon ends and fades straight into Tension, the lead single. First of all we're used to hearing this kind of track overlay in anything but EDM, so it's interesting seeing it done in this setting. Second, it has to be one of the most tension building (no pun intended) intros we've ever heard. It reminds us of times when a DJ builds up a track and instead of dropping it goes into another buildup. This technique just puts the listener over the edge and we think it's awesome that JayKode pulled it off in this EP.
Finally we get to the track Tension. From the get-go its a banger with smooth glitchy production edits that stay minimal yet are powerful enough to stand out from the average trap artist. The drop reminds us of the future bass complexity in detail yet with the mean attitude of festival trap, and even some hints of dubstep. There is honestly so much to be said about this we'll just let you interpret it for yourself.
To say the least, it's as if your favorite DJ puts out something better than he's ever done before. Mark our words JayKode is pretty much ready to smoke every producer in the game so we advise that you show all your friends so that you can get the cred for knowing him before everyone else.
