TEK.LUN is that kind of musician who, on your gloomy morning commute, will make you feel as though you're driving down a beachside highway. The sleek sound of slowed-down 808s carried below classic samples envelope you throughout your ride. All you can do is just sit back, breathe in the springtime air, and vibe. It makes sense: TEK.LUN records with HW&W, a label whose roster also includes future music favorites STWO, Ta-ku, and Kaytranada. His latest release, The Green Box, includes that quintessential, hip-hop-inspired sound, layered above ingenious beat patterns.
In addition to his EPs, the Baltimore-bred producer (who also raps under the pseudonym, Varth Dader) also has an impressive bunch of singles and remixes. He made waves last year with his chilled-out remix of Bobby Shmurda's "Hot Nigga," a track that might seem impossible to re-do. "If We Keep Falling" (streaming below) showcases his sharp-edged production prowess, from piercing drum tracks to a whirling, hypnotizing melody. A darker sound, wrapped up in a down-tempo bassline that might be familiar to trap enthusiasts, can be heard on "Run."
You can witness TEK.LUN in his zone on April 25, 2015, at the Knitting Factory in Brooklyn, NY, presented by Something Different. Joining TEK.LUN are Grumby, Edo Lee, and Max August.
