A BEMF Must: Gorgon City and Green Velvet

Here in New York, you’d be hard pressed to NOT find something to do with your weekend. If you feel you can’t find something, it’s because you’ve turned off your smartphone and have put your head under your pillow for days on end. Now, since we know that 99.9% of us don’t fall into that category, allow me to show you what I will be choosing for my weekend activity.

Brooklyn Electronic Music Festival (BEMF for short)- With over 40 artists performing at 8 different venues across Brooklyn, and spanning 3 nights (Oct. 12 – 14), you're bound to find an artist here that you recognize. BEMF artists include such names as: Green Velvet, Gorgon City, Justin Martin, Low End Theory, Tensnake, Pete Tong, Tokimonsta, Harvard Bass, Jacques Renault, Jimmy Edgar, Kill Frenzy, Reid Speed, Riva Starr, AND MORE.

Personally, I am excited for Gorgon City and Green Velvet at an undisclosed two room Brooklyn warehouse this Saturday, October 14. Warehouse parties are certainly on the rise in Brooklyn. Think of them as the modern day rave.

The UK based duo, Gorgon City is set to release a new album this year titled “Kingdom.” I’m excited to see what they have in store. Following up their debut studio album “Sirens” won’t be an easy task considering how beautifully orchestrated it was. I have faith in them though, they have yet to disappoint. They’re currently on tour now through December, spanning North America and UK.

What can be said that hasn’t already about Green Velvet? The man has been making music since the early 90s that has been compared to and inspired by Kraftwerk, Prince, Nitzer Ebb, and Gary Numan. With more than 4 different monikers, he has produced and performed various styles of music. His recent project with Claude Von Stroke know as “Get Real” is a major must hear / see. Green Velvet has been traveling all over the world this year playing shows across North America and Europe.

Along side these two on the line up are:

Matthew Dear
Tensnake
Jimmy Edgar
RIVA STARR
D Double E
Harvard Bass
Kill Frenzy
J-Cush
DAJAE
Joe Pompeo
