GoldFish For Those of Us In Need For A Live Music Fix

October 28, 2014 -

Tonight, I bring you this “Sugar Man” remix by Goldfish to listen to during your winding down hour. This live multi instrumental electronic music duo, if you’re not too familiar with them, hail all the way from Cape Town, South Africa. It’s no secret that I very much enjoy artists who are musicians first, DJs second and since Goldfish are just that, of course I jumped at the chance of sharing them with all of you. Dave and Dom, who make up Goldfish, describe their musical style as “beachy” (think tropical house) while other tracks get “more thumpy.” Dave plays alto sax and the flute, while Dom’s instruments are the stand-up double bass and the keyboard. Word has it that if a venue is lucky enough to have a grand piano, the guys waste no time in jumping on and mixing it in with their set. This, is just to help give you a background of the talent we’re dealing with here. However, if all of the above still fail to impress you, Dom alters sound during sets using a very unique device that uses infrared sensors to monitor his hand motions. For lack of a better description, Goldfish are a two-piece band, a human producing studio, and what have you.

Give a listen to “Sugar Man” below and if you like what you hear, I highly encourage you to catch this duo live while they’re still in the states. If you missed your chance to grab your tickets for their Brooklyn Bowl show, don’t get too bummed out just yet. The guys will be at SoundGarden Hall in Philadelphia this Thursday night. Don’t walk to get those tickets, run.
